Dry Skin with my dog

Post by Rach Rogers@Rai's doodles on Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:42 am

Does anyone know why a Labrador would develop dry skin on there sides Question
it is almost like there is not enough oil in there complete food currently using the Royal Canin. I have this problem with 1 of my Labradors.
have you got any tips or know why this would be?

Hi Rach,
I spoke to my cousin and he feeds his labrador on Skinners Field and Trial maintenance while she's not working, then on Field and Trial Crunchy when she is. She has a beautiful coat, really glossy and shiny.
Don't know if it's of any help, he couldn't think of any reason as to why your lab has this problem. He wondered if she was a working dog?
Cheers Elizabeth x

Hi Liz
No she is not a working dog, but I have started giving her oil in her food so will see if this helps, I did call Royal Canin and they said the food she is on is 12% 0il and 25% Protein, there is the next food up but more exspensive so I have bought a couple of bags to see if it helps. so bless her she is on the most expensive food.
will keep you posted

Can you try rubbing some oil actually on her flanks?

Just got some 'Greenfields dog tea tree oil shampoo' from the Burns website, its super, no dry skin in sight, and smells nice and strong to cover up those lovely doggie odours!
