Royal Canin Food

Post by Rach Rogers@Rai's doodles on Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:39 am

I feed my Labrador dogs the Royal Canin food, I do like it but some of my dogs are fussy eaters, so will not eat it, this is unusual for a Labrador. Has anyone tried the James Wellbeloved or Arden Grange food Question I need a very good quality food for very fussy eaters. I have 2 of my Dogs that are just too picky. and have gone completely off their food.
any tips would be great.

Scooby too is very, very fussy. I moved to Burns and he absolutely loves it. Very pricey though.

Coco is fed on James Wellbeloved. When she was on Royalcanin she went off it a bit so we changed her to James Wellbeloved (our training school said that was best.) We soak her food so it easier to digest (like a weetabix). She loves it and wolfs it down in seconds.

Toby loves his Royal Canin but it has to have his favourite yoghurt on it too, Yeo Valley organic. He seems fine on it. It's expensive too though, is the Burns even more? Question

I think the Royal Canin food is a little cheaper than the burns.
The Rc is about £36 approx and the Burns is near £40. I did try a bag but she did not like it. I have heard that the James wellbeloved is very good. but even more expensive.. the problem is Labradors eat so much.

Hi Rach, it was good to see you at the weekend.

I weaned ruby from RC to Burns due to the high protein, made her hyper. i did find that at first she was not so keen, took a few missed meals to build up an appetite before she would eat it. She is back on burns now and i'm weaning scruffy onto it now, i find they almost inhale it they eat it so quick! Its 38.49 for the 15kg bag, i found it lasted me longer than the RC bags, they don't seem to need as much to fill them up. Her dry skin cleared up on Burns aswell. I've got a friend who has a golden retreiver who suffered badly with dry skin, he found her dry skin cleared up almost overnight on the Burns. I found the nutrition helpline really helpful, and they answer nutrition emails almost instantly.
They have brought out a tinned food which you can get a reduced cost when you buy in bulk, maybe this helps it go down with fussy eaters.

Dawn Very Happy

Gosh Dawn Perhaps I should pursue the Burns again then. how is Scruffy enjoying the burns and has she settled in?
Yes it was good to see you, if only I had not been sooooooooo busy at the Farm Shop I could have spent more time with you and your lovely family.

I would also say that both Burns and Arden Grange are good, and are the better completes for not having so much rubbish in them etc

Scruffy is such a sweetheart, so quiet and gentle. Ruby and her are started lying a little closer together than they were on Saturday!
Scruffy had her first sprinkling of Burns this morning and still ate it straight down without looking up, but I'll keep you updated as I increase the amount!
I liked Burns as they listed the whole ingreadients they use in every variety, i struggled to fing this out on some websites!
But I wouldn't like to sound like 'this is the only and best dog food to use' there are so many good ones out there its so hard to choose and at the end of the day you have to plump for one and i'm still very new to this dog business!!!!!

Dawn lol!

Sorry I've been a bit out of action for the last 24 hours - bit of a dramatic weekend. My parents have had my godfather and his partner Pat to stay for the week and yesterday she collapsed at Mum's place (next door to me). She had a bad stroke and is now in our local Hereford Hospital but thankfully stable now. It was a bit chaotic and we are still reeling from the shock of it all, but hopefully she will make a good recovery.
Anyway Dawn - I have to say it was fantabulous to meet you on Saturday - not only you, but Mark, Grace, Lily and May and OF COURSE NOT FORGETTING - RUBY!! What a star! She and Scruffy are going to be best mates - I just know it! The initial sparring will soon subside and they will be bosom pals before you can say Jack Robinson.
You are all such a lovely family and it was so emotional meeting you - I felt all tearful when we said goodbye - but hopefully it won't be long before we meet up again.

Sarah that's awful, you poor thing. I hope she makes a full recovery soon. I too feed Burns and had a conversation about it with my neighbour yesterday who is a local representative for dog nutrition and advice. She thinks Burns is probably one of the best however she did say that some dogs can get hungry between meals. I have noticed since giving it to Scooby he has been trying to steal food (hence the chocolate incident), initially just put it down to age and testing a bit, but have upped the amount we give him. Apparently it is one of the most recommended foods to give if you have an overweight dog. I have managed to find it slightly cheaper by buying from my local representative who you can get from the Burns website

Sarah, I felt the same, its lovely to be able to put faces to names. I'm sorry you had such a bad run of it on the Sunday.

Already Scruffy and Ruby are starting to calm down, so hoping it continues. Everyone who sees Scruffy are so taken with her and impressed with how gentle she is, lets hope Ruby takes heed and follows in her footsteps, julie you obviously have had her well trained, apart from, you never fed her coffee cake did you??? When we got back on Saturday we had one of those fantastic huge coffee cakes from the farm shop and naturally tucked straight into it and left it out on the worktop and went and put the children to bed. When i came down half of it was missing, so naturally asked Mark if he had been a bit of a pig and eaten so much, then i looked down at Scruffy and she had crumbs all over her beard!!!!! Well she didn't have any ill effects, and we now keep food well back! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Just a little diversion, did anyone watch the Murray match last night, how amazing that he managed to turn that one around, after being 2 sets down, very exciting!!!! Not sure if he stands much chance against Nadal though????

Hi Girls - fancy a bit of coffee cake?
Naughty little Scruffy! We had a piece of ham once on the kitchen table. One minute it was there, the next it wasn't! That was pre children days - so it either had to be a husband or a dog and it was the latter!! There's no way my hubby could even eat a whole ham in one go!!!
Yes, we saw the Murray match last night - brilliant tennis. I have to say though that times are a changin'.
There was a day not very long ago, when all you heard from the crowd was an oooooo or an ahhhhhh - now it's cheer singing, loud rawcous shouts and whistles! I SAY!! Plus the players are so fired up and demonstrative.... you wouldn't get Borg rising his fist at every point and then revealing his muscles at the end of the match!!! However, I did enjoy it and like you Dawn - don't think he'll beat Tight Nickers Nadal.
