Orijen Dog Food

I have always used premium dog foods and stay away from grains and anything artificial but have not used Orijen before. It comes recommended by a friend who changed to it 4 months ago. She says her labs coat is amazing and he seems like a much fitter, healthier dog than before so was wondering if any of you have any comments on it.

While asking about diet, what size gnawing bones are best for miniature labradoodles? I want ...

Questions on Spaying.

Our vet wants to spay Daisie as early as 6 months to protect her from womb infections and cancer. I have always waited untill just after the first season so they reach maturity first. We are also concerned that early spaying could cause bladder problems amongst others.

I need to make a decision soon and would be glad of any advice, pro's and con's either way, to help me make up my mind.

I've just had an extremely entertaining evening at our first dog class. Entertaining because I was watching as Josh was working Toby, and because no-one knew I was with them. I could watch the other owners facial expressions that ranged from the faintly alarmed to horrified as Toby performed. I was rumbled in the end as I couldn't stop laughing at his antics. He was the juvenile delinquent of the class. The trainer was very kind and kept us back for detention and extra class at the end.

Yet another trip to the vet for Scooby

Off to the vet again this morning. Scooby has a very bloodshot eye, I am guessing due to running across the fields yesterday. Could of course be linked to his groom on Tuesday. Another bill I suppose. Of course the problem with this insurance lark is that you can only claim over the excess per condition. We have had so many bills just under the excess and I have only been able to claim �160 of nearly �900 worth of bills.

Well that was a turn up for the books. The lady I met in the park with the woodle had told me that she was a dog groomer. I met her again this week at the stables where the boys ride and it turns out we had met years ago when we used to compete on the show jumping circuit (what a small world). Dog Leads????

Didn't know whether this was the correct area to put this, but here goes.

I was just wondering what leads people use for their doodles, there is such a massive range out there, just thought it might be interesting to swop ideas of what leads we use and why this one???

I use a clip on cord lead at the moment, not totally sure about it, if Ruby pulls (which of course she shouldn't) it really hurts my hand if i have it wrapped round a few times - poor me!!

Hello everyone,

As I have said previously we do not have our dog yet but we have two gorgeous rabbits.

I just wanted to hear from anybody who has some (maybe Elizabeth) how you introduced the puppy to the rabbits. Is it quite safe for the dog to sniff around the cage or run? #We have had a big Golden Retriever here and the rabbits didn't seem to mind but the dog was very excited! I suppose the excitement will wear off over time and hopefully they will all learn to live together, ...

On friday we had our long awaited litter of F1b chocolate brown puppies, they are lovely in everyway with the most amazingly beautiful coats!! Mum is super and we couldn't have asked for a more loving, nuturing mother for our babies

Sausage Treats

Elsewhere I have advocated the use of sausage bits as treats.

Yesterday my new industrial sized batch of dried sausages arrived - old fashioned all in a long string!!

I cut up about 6 sausages into tiny pieces and put each lot into little freezer bags and then popped them all in the dog freezer, so I can just grab my next treat bag when the previous one runs out.

I have to say that they really do make excellent bribery treats. Jenny and Pommy respond incredibly well to them and I just ...

How to make your dog/puppy sit

I expect every one here has taught their dogs how to sit but here is some tips for the newbies.

1. Put a treat in your hand

2. Call your dog/puppy and show the treat to her/him

3.Put your hand with the treat in it in front of the dog/puppy's nose

4.Lift the treat so the dog/puppy is looking up at it

5. Say sit

6.Your dog/puppy should sit and when s/he does give her/him the treat

7. Repeat this and after the 5th time do no hand actions, only say sit. If your

dog/puppy sits then give ...

Here's the latest picture of our gorgeous Pommy reclining by the Aga (as dogs do!). She can now go from 'sit' to 'down' to 'tickle tummy'. She's learning new tricks all the time and is so quick to grasp her new commands - especially when there's a bit of sausage on the other end!!!

No need to say this really, but I don't think I've experienced such ferocious heat in this country before - knowing this country it won't last, BUT DO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN OUTSIDE!

We humans should all be plastered in suncream to avoid burning and skin damage (we don't want to look like candidates for 10 Years Younger.....!!) AND make sure that your Dogs are not left in the heat (even the shade) for too long. Heat exhaustion is just as nasty as Sun Stroke............

So we are on holiday and yesterday Scooby spent the day in the vets having an operation. He has reacted quite badly to the internal stitches from his castration 12 weeks ago and he developed a huge red sore blister whilst we were here. They decided to open him up and take out the stitches that hadn't dissolved and when they did so found it had gone really fibrous and tough so they had to cut away a lot of tissue.

Gold plated my dog now, costing a bloomin fortune! No beach now, no long ...
