Do you believe our dogs pick up and sense when we are sad/happy

Post by Julie Rogers (Manorborn) on Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:12 pm

After a difficult week, when I have not been at my most joyful, I am sure that star and company picked this up and were more loving and cuddly than usual, what are your thoughts. Smile

Absolutely. Whenever my children cry Scooby will not leave them alone, he licks them to death and waggs his tail as if to say "don't cry, don't cry, come on let's play"

Equally when I am down he is very quiet and chilled and just lays on my feet as if to comfort me.

Yes definitely Julie.
There are times when only a dog will give you a bit of sympathy and love when no-one else will/notices. Many a time I have found solace with a furry friend by my side. They just seem to know when I'm low.
I totally understand why they say that a dog is man's best friend.
I wonder why there isn't a doggie smiley? confused

You're right Julie, dogs do sense when you're low. Just like Sarah says, they give you sympathy and love quietly even when no-one else notices. They also can go wild when you're happy too! My Mother had some very serious operations a few years ago and she credits her Cavalier King Charles at the time for helping her to get through it. I've noticed even as young as he is, Toby senses our moods and acts accordingly. They are man's best friend.
Glad to hear you dogs are more cuddly and loving than ever Julie, hope you're feeling brighter.

oh absolutely! I'm not feeling too well this week and Scruff has been really more loving than ever (Stan just licks you to death anyway!) but Scruff has been like it before, if I've had a bit of a cry or something. They're amazing creatures!

Ruby is definitely quieter when i'm sad, she will come and sit at my feet and keep them warm. She also gets a bit sad if Marks away or late in, she will go and lie on our bed and as soon as she hears the car door shut she races downstairs and straight out to see him, i can't get over what amazing hearing they have, somtimes it not until I hear Ruby that i realise Mark is home!
Its a good job she doesn't get too affected by the childrens tears or we'd have a manic depressed dog!!!!

Hope you are feeling better Julie, lol!

When I was a teenager my lab Ben was the best friend a girl could have - he saw me through all that teenange angst with his big understanding brown eyes. They definitely pick up on when you need a hug , but they also know when you are in a hurry to go out Rolling Eyes
