Grooming brushes
What sort of brushes do you all use? Just wondering if you use the fine slicker brushes or a comb or both for your doodles. Also wondered if you prefer your Doodles coats long, medium or short?
I have a preference for short (ish) so that they don't get knotted up. But there's something about the grooming that I find very theraputic and I actually get a sense of achievement when they are all tangle free and looking silky and gorgeous...

Re: Grooming brushes
I think grooming would be lovely and therapeutic if only Pebbles didn't hate it so much. brushing her is a nightmare. I like her coat long because it is so lovely, very loose spirals but she just is such a pain whenever you get out the comb and brush. At the moment she needs a really good brush. I am going to try this afternoon.

Re: Grooming brushes
Sarah, Raffi has a spiral wool coat which is quite easy to look after and rarely gets tangled! When we have her groomed, she ends up looking very poofy!!! We do not brush her too often but when we do we use the double sided les pooches brush and a pin brush. However, nothing works for Zach and we are having trouble with his fine curly coat at the moment....we have a matt breaker and all the brushes/combs under the sun to try and keep it under control but have come to the conclusion that we must have him shaved quite short. He is going to the groomers next week....I'm sure he will end up looking like a little rat, he has such pink skin!!! It is a bit of a shame really as he is soooo cute with longer hair, but it just isn't manageable.

Re: Grooming brushes
I use a slicker brush on Scruffy and a moulting comb, both are great, but I do tend to keep her coat pretty short, although she is a darling to brush, she just sits there and lets me do it for as long as I want to - bless!

Re: Grooming brushes
Mum and I started grooming the dogs ourselves, but we made such a mess cutting there coats we thought it better to have them go every 10 wks to the groomer
she does a much better job than us

Re: Grooming brushes
I know Rai, I was thinking about doing the cutting myself, but when faced with the whole dog...well, 'nough said!!!! I used to cut my dolls hair as a child and that was always a disaster!!!!!! When faced with a moving object.......mmmmmmm????? our groomer really earns her money!!! I am still tempted sometimes though....

Re: Grooming brushes
I thought about doing Scooby, after all always did my own horses. Then when I really thought about it, what would I do with all the HAIR!
Like the rest of you I feel my groomer really earns every penny.

Re: Grooming brushes
I agree with you all. I wouldn't mind learning how to do it, but I don't think I have the patience! It takes forever to do and as you all say, it's so much easier taking them to the Groomer regularly. They really do make a good job!
I have just finished grooming Purdey and her sister Truffles (who has just left after her little holiday with us) and they looked like two little atom bombs running around! Purdey is like Raffi Karen, and spiral coated which she gest from her Mum Pommy. As you say, it seems pretty easy to comb through actually and so far so good! She goes to the Groomer for the first time next Thursday so hopefully she will not play up!!!
